Touring the Cape Shore - Where the Adventure Continues
Depart your hotel in St. John’s in the morning and head west on the Trans Canada Highway to Route 100 where you will take the Argentia Access Road to Placentia. Visit the Museum of the Atlantic Allies in Argentia that was a major American naval base in World War II. The exhibition deals with the effect the U.S. presence had on the area.

Placentia, the former French Capital of Newfoundland offers many local attractions. It has the only lift bridge in Newfoundland. There are old fort sites, a museum, the O'Reilly Heritage House, and a church with a graveyard site that is one of the oldest in Canada. The Placentia waterfront boardwalk, bordering one side of the town, passes under towering cliffs and serves as a boat dock.

Visit Castle Hill National Historic Site, an old fort that offers a fantastic view of the area, and a historical drama called the Faces of Fort Royal that brings the French colonial era to life.

In the afternoon visit Cape St. Mary's - a seabird sanctuary with the largest nesting colony of gannets in Newfoundland and the third largest in North America. There are also Black-legged Kittiwakes, Atlantic Murres and Northern Razorbills. Interpreters are on duty to assist any of your needs. The vantage point overlooks magnificent sea stacks and offers an opportunity to photograph the seabirds as they swoop overhead. A visit to the sanctuary is an experience you will never forget.
